Abstract

<PICT:0683217/IV (a)/1> A machine for extruding tubes from rubber, plastic materials, &c. has a die assembly comprising an external die 14 and an internal die 13. Between the two dies is formed an expansion chamber 15 which provides a reservoir of compressed material, and this chamber has a volume per unit length of flow of the material that is substantially greater than the volume per unit length of flow at either the outlet from the chamber or the inlet thereto. Die 13 is secured to torpedo 12 and die 14 to cylinder 11. A screw (not shown) feeds material to the die. An axial hole 17 may supply compressed air to the extruded tube and may inflate it. A taper 16 is formed at the outer end of die 14.
