Abstract

969,453. Blow-moulding hollow articles. TUBED CHEMICALS CORPORATION. April 9, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 14086/63. Heading B5A. In a method of making hollow articles, e.g. dispenser tubes, a tube 8 is extruded through a die 2 to a length slightly longer than the two die halves 10, 12, each of which has a cavity 14 for the main body of the tube and a die insert at each end consisting e.g. of an inner shoulder 16, a thread die 18 and a tip die 20, the mould is closed and air is introduced under pressure via tube 6 to blow the walls into intimate contact with the mould surfaces, air passing out of the die exit at the lower end. At the inlet end an air chamber block 22 may be provided to prevent Venturi effects. Alternatively the fluid pressure may be admitted at the centre of the tube cavity and allowed to pass to the atmosphere from both ends of the die cavity. The double tip ended article is then cut in half and finished in the normal manner.
