Abstract
873,955. Blow-moulding plastic bottles. PLAX CORPORATION. May 23, 1960, No. 18069/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XVII] In a process for making a multicavity, plastic squeeze bottle a length of tubular plastic 10, Fig. 1, such as polyethylene, closed at one end, is extruded between the open sections of a blow mould 12 and pinched together along a line corresponding to the position of the required internal wall 7, Fig. 5, the mould then being closed and the tube blow-moulded. The pinch line may be formed by a pair of jaws 13a, 13b, Fig. 1, which may have discontinuities along their edges to provide openings in the internal walls if intermixing between different compartments is required. In a modification Figs. 6-9, (not shown) the bottle is divided into two identical compartments by means of two plates which pinch the tube along a line extending from top to bottom of the mould cavity. The internal walls of a multicavity bottle may be reshaped, so that they are more readily yieldable to squeeze pressure, by inserting rods into the bottle, Fig. 11, (not shown), while it is in a soft state and under blow pressure in the mould, and rotating the rods to twist the internal walls relative to the outer wall Fig. 12, (not shown).
