Abstract
683,194. Percussive drill bits. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. May 3, 1951 [May 6, 1950], No. 10427/51. Class 124. In a percussive drill bit a part or parts of the insert nearest to the bottom of the groove is tougher than the remainder of the insert, the tougher part extending to the periphery of the insert the whole of which is formed of hard carbide and a binding metal. As shown the insert comprises a hard portion 14 and a tough portion 13 which may be in one piece or two pieces, Fig. 3 (not shown). The insert may be composed of tungsten carbide and cobalt, the tough portion containing 14-30 per cent of cobalt.
