Abstract
683,018. Percussive drill bits. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. April 13, 1951 [April 21, 1950], No. 8671/51. Class 124. In a rock drill insert of substantially flat form and having zones of different hardness, the harder zones are shorter than the length of the insert and do not form part of the broad sides of the insert. As shown, an insert 13 may have harder portions 12 at either end forming the end edges and have softer metal along the whole length of the sides 16 and 17. The harder portions may have rounded ends, Fig. 5 (not shown), may be cylindrical, Fig. 6 (not shown); or may take the form of short oval shaped pieces arranged along the centre of the insert, Fig. 7 (not shown). The harder metal may or may not form part of the base of the insert, Fig. 4 (not shown).
