Abstract
668,486. Percussion-tool bits. SOC. D'ELECTRO-CHIMIE, D'ELECTRO-METALLURGIE ET DES ACIERIES ELECTRIQUES D'UGINE. Jan. 11, 1950, No. 781/50. Class 124. A percussion tool bit comprises a substantially cylindrical head having on its upper surface a centrally disposed recess 4 and at least one pair of V- shaped cutting edges 3a, 3b sloping upwardly from the periphery of the upper surface to the periphery of the recess, the edges of each pair being symmetrically arranged with respect to two orthogonal planes passing through the axis of the tool. The apices of the V's are distant by about 1/3 of the radius from the axis. The recess may have slightly rounded walls and may have leading into it an air or other clearing fluid passage 5 with branches 5a, 5b. Four semicylindrical recesses 6 for the removal of fragments and dust are disposed symmetrically with reference to .the cutting edges. The latter may be formed by inserts of tungsten carbide or like hard metal.
