682,884. Regenerative heat-exchange material. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN June 16, 1950 [June 22, 1949], No. 15062/50. Class 64 (i) A plate pack for a regenerative heat exchanger comprises spaced plates between which the heat delivering and heat absorbing fluids flow in a direction parallel to the basic plane of the plates, said plates being provided with slits 16 which divide the plate surface into a number of part surfaces partially separated from one another, said part surfaces being upset from the basic plane of the plate. Spacing members between adjacent plates may be provided and may comprise pressed-up ridges 12 (Fig. 2) or wires welded in position. The upset portions 18 may lie obliquely to the plane of the plate and, in adjacent plates, may be either parallel or inclined in opposite directions and staggered (Fig. 4) or they may be parallel to the plane of the plate. Alternatively the portions 18 may be arcuate, V-shaped or wave shaped in cross-section, e.g. as shown in Fig. 14. The slits 16 may extend at right angles to the spacers 12 or they may lie obliquely thereto. The spacing ridges may themselves be slit and the portions between the slits displaced in opposite directions. In a further form, Fig. 18, the portions 18 are formed as arches to serve as spacers. In this form the arches of adjacent plates 10 may contact each other or plane or undulated plates 24 may alternate with the plates 10.
