Abstract
682,565. Milling. CREEK, J. O., and ROE CANADA, Ltd., A. V. Jan. 19, 1951, No. 1492/51. Class 83 (iii). A tool-head for milling a trough-shaped recess 5 with closed ends in a turbine blade 1 mounted on a reciprocating table 2 comprises a driving gear 8 meshing with a driven gear 7 on the axis of which are mounted a pair of milling cutters 4, the gears being enclosed by a hydraulic casing having a portion of semicylindrical shape for supporting the gear 7. The casing comprises a horizontal plate 17, Fig. 3, and three vertical plates 6, 11, 12 secured together, the plate 6 being bored to receive the gears and having formed in the face thereof grooves which are enclosed by the outer plates 11, 12 to form passages for the transmission of fluid to the gear 8. The cutters have screwed shanks threaded into the tapped ends of a spigot concentric with the gear 7. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the driving gear meshes with a further driving gear, both gears being mounted on pins supported by the casing.
