545,060. Shearing; planing. SMITH & CO. (POSSIL), Ltd., H., and MACMURCHY, H. S. Jan. 1, 1942, No. 256/41. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] A combined machine for shearing and planing the edges of plates, bars, strips &c. comprises a bed 24 for the reception of the plate &c., and a hollow saddle structure 25 mounted for reciprocation on the bed by a motor carried on the saddle and driving through a gear box (not shown) accommodated within the saddle which has a compound slide 27, 28 carrying a two station turret 29 having at one side a rotary shear blade 171 that co-operates with a blade 18 extending along the bed, and at the other side, oppositely directed planing cutters 211 acting alternately to enable cutting to take place in both directions of traverse.
