Abstract

1,196,310. Sheet cutter. SHEARD PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT Ltd. 17 March, 1969 [16 Dec., 1967], No. 57237/67. Heading B4B. A cutter unit for cutting sheet material, e.g. carpet, comprises a pair of blades 30, 40 oppositely rotatable on parallel shafts 24, 34 extending from respective gear-boxes 16, 18 drivably connected to respective motors 12, 14, e.g. electric, hydraulic &c., which are mounted on a common backplate 10, the gear-boxes being supported solely by respective adaptors (20), (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), secured to the motors. As shown, one blade 30 is rigidly clamped between members 26, 28 by bolts 32, while the other 40 is biased thereagainst by springs 44. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3-4 (not shown), the backplate (70) is disposed in a plane perpendicular to that of the cutting edges, its leading edge (72) being chamfered to assist the material being cut in riding under or over it.
