Abstract
682,463. Power hammers. SYNTRON CO. March 13, 1950 [July 22, 1949], No. 6207/50. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVIII] In a Diesel engine-operated power hammer of the kind having a combustion chamber formed by a substantially upright cylinder 5, Figs. 1 and 1A, a piston 3 free to reciprocate therein, and an anvil 12 slidably mounted in one end of the cylinder and on which the piston impacts, the anvil 12, which acts in the manner of a second piston in the cylinder 5, has its range of motion therein limited by diametrically opposed axial grooves 14 engaged by keys 18 integral with or attached to half-rings 20 bolted to the cylinder 5. The hammer, which is shown as driving a pile 17, has a hoisting connection 99 and is mounted in a frame, which may in turn be supported on skids, and which has ways to receive guides 98, Fig. 5, on the cylinder 5.
