Abstract

770,654. Percussive tools. KANGO ELECTRIC HAMMERS, Ltd., and BADCOCK, D. N. W. June 1, 1955 [March 8, 1954]. No. 6667/54. Class 124 A percussive drill, having movable co-operating members in a sleeve, one being a driver and the other a striker and having an air chamber formed between their opposing ends, has at least one longitudinal groove, in the exterior surface of the driver or striker 'and at least one annular groove in the interior surface of a cylinder which has imperforate side walls and encloses or constitutes part of the coacting striker or driver to control the flow of air into or out of the air chamber. ' As shown, a piston 1, driven by a prime mover, e.g. an electric motor, forming the driver co-operates with a freely moving cylinder 3 forming the striker. The cylinder has an annular groove 4 which coacts with longitudinal grooves 5 in the piston to produce a pressure in an air chamber 6 equal to atmospheric pressure, twice during each cycle. A .piston ring 7 may be fitted to the lower end of the piston and the groove 4 may be discontinuous In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown) the cylinder may be fixed, the driver being a driven piston and the striker a free piston, the cylinder having two annular grooves coacting with the pistons: In a further modification Fig. 8 (not shown) the driver is a driven cylinder and the striker a free piston.
