Abstract
A polishing composition comprises a major proportion of a hydrocarbon, chlorinated hydrogen or ether solvent, or a mixture of such solvents, and a minor proportion of a wax and a polydimethylsiloxane having a viscosity in the range 50-400 centistokes, the ratio of siloxane to wax being between 1 to 4 and 2 to 1. The solvent has an aniline point (as defined in the Specification) of between -22 DEG and 185 DEG F. and preferably has a boiling range within the range 190 DEG to 450 DEG F. Specified solvents are carbon tetrachloride, ethylene dichloride, perchlorethylene, trichlorethylene, ethyl and hexyl ethers, heptane, petroleum naphtha, paraffin oil and Stoddart solvent. Specified waxes are paraffin wax, oxidized paraffin wax, montan wax, ozokenite, and carnauba, candellila, ouricuri, palm, bees and whale waxes. Two examples are given of the preparation of typical compositions. The compositions may be contained in an aerosol bomb together with not less than 50 per cent, e.g. 85 per cent, by volume of the bomb of a undevisible gas such as fluorochloromethane or fluorochloroethane, for spraying, e.g. on automobile bodies. Specification 689,850 is referred to.
