Abstract

681,830. Labelling machines. MORGAN FAIREST. Ltd.. and FAIREST, D. H. Feb. 26, 1951. [March 14, 1950] No. 6304/50. Class 73. In a labelling machine of the type described in Specification 624,246, the label feeding mechanism is modified. A label is applied to an article 14 by rolling it over the gummed side of a label 12B held by suction on a transfer box 13. A suction pusher 11 picks up a label at the position 10, by its gummed side, from a plate (not shown) to which it is adhering by wet gum and moves to 10A where the label is transferred to the box 13. Suction is applied continuously to all faces of the box 13 from a chamber 21 connected through sealing and seating rings to individual tubes leading to the holes on the box faces. The box may removed readily to allow replacement of the box faces according to the size of the label to be applied. The suction chamber 21 is connected to supply tubes 39, 41 of the pusher 11 by a valve box 32 operated by a rotating cam 34 to admit suction only while the pusher moves from 10 to 10A. A filter 40 connects the tubes 39, 41 preventing dust from entering the valve box 32.
