Class 6(i) Vibrating movement is imparted to a. roller by a rotating out of balance vibratory shaft S journalled on the roller R and pro-. jecting through hollow stub shafts B, B<SP>1</SP> and driven from a motor E through belt. and pulley gearing and a clutch 108. The roller is independently driven from the motor E through belt and pulley gearing and change-speed gearing 100. Transmission of vibration to the frame is reduced by rubber blocks 113. An adjustable handle and parking feet are provided. In a modification the invention is incorporated in thefront roll of a tandem roller provided with a rear steering roll.
