Abstract
A detergent composition is made by spray-drying an aqueous mixture containing 1 part of a water-soluble triphosphate, 0.2-4.0 parts of an anionic sulphated or sulphonated synthetic detergent and 0.07-1.2 parts of a water-soluble silicate, the mixture being spray-dried within three hours of its preparation and the ingredients being so selected that the dried product has a pH value of at least 9, as measured in 0.5 per cent aqueous solution at 25 DEG C. Non-dusting, non-balling granular products forming clear aqueous solutions are obtained. The preferred triphosphate is sodium triphosphate (Na5P3O10), which is preferably taken in its less easily hydrated anhydrous crystalline form, referred to in the Specification as "Form II." Specified anionic synthetic detergents are alkyl sulphates and alkyl-aryl sulphonates containing an alkyl group of 8-18 carbon atoms, monoglyceride sulphates and sulphonates, sulphoethyl oleate and N-sulphoethyl-N-methyloleic amide. The compositions may include also alkali carbonates, other phosphates, borates, perfumes, preservatives and colouring matter. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states that the products may be dried otherwise than by spray-drying, e.g. on a drum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
