A road vehicle trailer body for transporting meat &c. comprises, a foredeck 11 and a main deck 10, Fig. 1, mounted on crank-ended longitudinal chassis members 12, 13 and cross-members 9, and a roof fitted with straight rails 41 and an endless rail 43 carrying roller hangers 42 from which carcasses can be suspended, the rails being fixed to hooped load carrying frames 23 mounted on chassis outriggers 21. A loading well 20 is provided at each side of the body to reduce the loading level, and sliding doors are fitted. Each hoop 23, Fig. 5, consists of two uprights joined to a U-shaped top part by means of channel members 24. The floor 25, Fig. 7, is laid on the chassis members 12, 13, but is bolted to drilled angle members 26. Wooden rails 27, Fig. 1, bolted to the hoops 23, support inner and outer light metal panels 28, 29, and heat-insulating material 32 is packed between the panels at the ends, sides, roof, doors and wheel arches 8, and between the inner and outer floors 25, 33. Rubber seals are fitted round the doors, and for easy cleaning the lower interior of the body is covered with zinc sheet 35. The skirt rail of the framework 27 is attached to the outer ends of the outriggers 21 by small angle irons 34 welded to the arms 21. This skirt rail carries the edges of the panels and floors, and also the guide rails of the doors 30. Adjustable ventilators 36, and electric lights supplied from a battery 39 may be provided, and the foredeck may be built as a separate compartment. The carcasses are held at their lower ends by means of anchor rails 45, Fig. 2 (not shown), which rails are provided with a series of apertures which can be selectively engaged by hooks 46. The Provisional Specification describes one or more retractable loading rails which may be extended through the doors to link up with corresponding rails at the loading station.
