Abstract

[Also in Groups IX and XXXVII] As shown in Fig. 4, a governor for regulating the speed of an electric motor driving a ring spinning frame comprises a spindle 13 moving in accordance with the movement of the ring rail of the frame, a potentiometer 15 having a contact arm 14 displaceable by the spindle to provide for the cyclic variation of the speed of the motor, another potentiometer 21 having a contact arm 20 displaceable progressively by the spindle, the potentiometer 15 and contact arm 14 being moved together or otherwise rendered inoperative during displacement of the arm 20, and means for providing a voltage distribution along the potentiometer 21 corresponding to the required basic speed variation so that movement of the arm 20 provides such basic variation. The spindle 13 carries the contact arm 14 together with an arm 16 engageable with a part 17 which is movable through an angle and is mechanically coupled with the potentiometer 15 which is also movable. A transformer 38 (Fig. 5) has its secondary winding connected in series with the potentiometer 21, the output voltage from terminals 34, 35 being arranged for grid control of a rectifier supplying the motor. The required voltage distribution along the potentiometer 21 is provided by transformers 39, 40, the secondary windings of which are connected to tappings on the potentiometer. The input voltages of transformers 39, 40 are controlled by means of the potentiometer 15. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 669,541, [Group XXXVII].
