Abstract

752,135. Automatic speed control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRIEDLANDER, E. S. April 13, 1955 [May 3, 1954], No. 12826/54. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVII] A three-phase, pilot motor 85 for controlling the rotor resistance of a winder motor 10 has the alternating current winding 74 of a magnetic amplifier connected in one of the supply lines to its stator, the two other phases of the motor 85 being joined to tappings in similar series-connected reactors 80, 81, which are connected across two phases of the supply. The junction of the reactors is joined to a tapping 174 near the centre of the winding 74. By controlling the degree of saturation of the magnetic amplifier the effective phase sequence of the current supplied to the motor 85 may be regulated, so that, when the amplifier is substantially unsaturated, there is a complete reversal of the phase sequence as compared with the fullysaturated condition. The magnetic amplifier has a control winding 70 and a biasing winding 73. A desired speed of the winder motor 10 may be set by adjustment of a manual control lever 24 which causes the hydraulic servo system SM to adjust the magnitude of the rotor resistance 12. The voltage of a tachometer generator 60 is compared with that derived from a reference potentiometer 72 and the error voltage is applied to the control winding 70. In this manner, the motor 85 adjusts the position of a toothed sector 78, which is linked with the slider 71 of the potentiometer 72, so that the attitude of a link 23 is dependent upon the speed of the motor 10. As a result, the magnitude of the resistance 12 is made dependent upon the speed of the motor 10 as well as the setting of the manual control lever 24. One armature terminal of the tachometer generator is connected to the negative terminal of the auxiliary direct-current supply 63 during driving operation of the winder motor, and to the positive terminal for dynamic braking, by means of a change-over switch 163. A doublepole change-over switch 62 for. the field winding 61 of the tachometer generator occupies different positions according to the operating conditions of the winder motor.
