Abstract

678,867. Portable turning apparatus. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd. May 30, 1951 [April 31, 1950], No. 13650/50. Class 83 (iii). A tool for dressing the tips of welding electrodes in situ comprises a pair of arms 11, 14, adjustably pivoted together intermediate their ends, one arm being formed on its outer face as a holder 20 to carry removably one of a number of shaping tools 24, and the other being formed on its outer face with a centring depression 19. One arm 11 is formed with lugs 12 having spaced pivot-holes 13 to which the second arm 14 may be hinged, depending on the spacing required at the operative end of the tool. The shaping tool 24, which may be one of a series of different sizes, is secured in a cylindrical recess 21 by a set screw 22. The handle portions are first opened to bring the operative ends together and the centring depression placed over one of the electrodes, the handles are then closed to bring the cutter into contact with the opposite electrode and the tool is then rotated or oscillated to dress the electrode. The tool is then inverted and the other electrode is dressed.
