Abstract

Solid calcium nitrate is produced from a 78-90 per cent aqueous solution thereof at a temperature of 280-360 DEG C and a pressure above 20, and up to 150, atmospheres by releasing at least part of the pressure on it and providing a large surface area of solution, without supplying more than 20k. cals of external heat per kgm. calcium nitrate. The solution may thus be sprayed into unheated air at lower, e.g. atmospheric pressure, or may be run on to an agitated bed of anhydrous calcium nitrate granules at atmospheric pressure in a pug mill.
