Abstract

A saturated or nearly saturated aqueous solution of calcium nitrate is heated under a pressure high enough to prevent boiling and then expanded to a pressure below the vapour pressure of the heated solution before the expansion, the temperature before and the pressure after the expansion being adjusted so as to give a moist powder containing less than 10 per cent of water. A product having 7.6 per cent of water is obtained after expanding to 1 atmosphere a calcium nitrate solution containing 23 per cent water which has been heated up to 290 DEG C. under 18 atmospheres. The powder-like product can be dehydrated in a drying drum.
