Abstract
677,284. Endless conveyers. BALLARD & CO., Ltd., F. J. Jan. 18, 1951. [Jan. 19, 1950 ; Feb. 22, 1950] Nos. 1488/50 and 4568/50. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). Sheets 57 are unloaded from the wire frames 16 of an oven conveyer 12 onto the table 15 of a carriage 13 by bars 22 which are either magnetised or have suction devices to hold a sheet. The bars are vertically reciprocated. A cam 25 on the reciprocating carriage strikes an arm 26 to cause the arms 22 to rise and a pawl 28 retains them in a raised position until it contacts an abutment 30 on the carriage which lowers the arms to deposit the sheet on the carriage table. The carriage then moves along rails 11 to beneath a vertically moving horizontal frame 31 having suction devices 32. The frame is lowered to engage the sheet and retains it while the carriage 13 returns to the oven conveyer. To invert the sheet so that it is restored to its initial condition, the sheet is deposited on the table 38 of a second carriage 14 which moves simultaneously with the first carriage. The carriage is rotatable about a shaft 37 and has a cam device with rollers 43, 44 which engage cam tracks 51, 46 respectively so that the carriage rotates through 90 degrees on a rearward journey and through a further 90 degrees on the return, the table then being inverted, the sheet is attached beneath the table and is dropped onto a stacking pile. In an alternative form, without inverting, the sheet is retained by suction devices beneath the first carriage. Various devices are described to aid the transfer of the sheet from a wire frame onto the table. The sheet is blown onto by an air jet from below at the conveyer end and axially moving suction devices are used on the table and a trip device to hold down the outer edge of the frame, the frames being connected to form chain links. If the sheets are to be inverted, the second carriage is used and in one position is brought into vertical alignment with the first carriage and beneath it so that the sheet may be deposited on the lower table which inverts it before depositing it on a stack. The gripping devices used may be suction or magnetic.
