1369366 Discharging packages from endless conveyers; sorting postal mail SWISS CONFEDERATION and DAVERIO AG 31 Aug 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 40474/72 Heading B8A Postal packages 4 are deflected from a conveyer belt 3 on receipt of a control signal, by the action of a two-part arm 18, 36, the outer part 36 always having less of an inclination to the direction of conveyance as the arm moves out, compared with the inclination of the part 18. The control signal starts a motor 10 which is connected by gearing to a shaft 8 carrying a crank 12. The latter carries a follower 14 which lies between parallel rails of a member 15 pivotally mounted to the conveyer frame at 23 at one end, and connected to an arm 16 at its other end. The arm 16 is one arm of a bell crank 17, the other arm of which forms the part 18 of the package deflector arm. At its outer end, the arm 18 is pivotally connected to an arm forming the deflector part 36. The latter has an offset pivot 40 which connects an arm 42 with a member 28 rigid with the conveyer frame. When the arm 15 returns to its initial position, it engages a switch 51 which disconnects the supply of current to the motor 10. The arms 18 and 36 carry respective plates (61) (Fig. 1, not shown) and 62 which in the retracted position of the two-part arm, form a continuation of the conveyer side-wall.
