Abstract

677,156. Ruling-machines. SCHECHNER, P., and CIGARETTE COMPONENTS, Ltd. Dec. 13, 1950 [Dec. 13, 1949], No. 31996/49. Class 100 (ii). [Also in Groups VI and XIX] In a method of manufacturing elements e.g. plugs for mouthpiece cigarettes, of the kind consisting of a core enclosed in a tube formed from a strip of sheet material wrapped around the core and having a longitudinal lapped joint, two lines 29, 30 are printed on a sheet of paper 10 by a marking roller 16 comprising two steel discs 16a, 16b separated by shims 22, and accurately positioned by a micrometer screw 23, the paper subsequently passing to a device in which it is wrapped around the plug material. After wrapping, the lines indicate whether the size of the plugs is within the limits tolerated. The roller 16 is supplied with ink by a roller 27, and may be arranged to print two interrupted lines or a narrow band, the edges of which correspond to the lines 29, 30. A fluorescent ink only visible under ultraviolet light may be used.
