Abstract
677,012. Soldered joints; making composite sheets. JEWELL, R. C., and THESSCO INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH, Ltd. Aug. 21, 1950 [Sept. 5, 1949], No. 22984. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). A composite material for making a soldered or brazed joint consists of outer layers of solder or brazing metal in metallic union with an intermediate layer of another metal in the form of gauze for reinforcing the joint subsequently to be made: The reinforcing layer may be for example of steel, copper, or a copper-nickel alloy. The composite sheet or strip may be made by passing a reinforcing layer through molten solder, covered with molten flux, and under a graphite &c. roller, the resultant sheet being rolled, or solder may be deposited on a reinforcing layer by thermal deposition or electrolysis. The invention is stated to be particularly applicable to the brazing of hard metal tips to tool shanks.
