Abstract
407,943. Making compound plates. WOLCOTT, D. S., Colonial Village, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Sept. 24, 1932, No. 26607. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1931. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Two or more steel &c., slabs 10 with thinner plates of nickel &c., 20 are assembled with a layer 20<a> of inert material (magnesium oxide) between, and welded round the edges, the pile then being heated to welding temperature and rolled down to thickness as required when the compound slabs of metal and nickel can be detached as at 20<a> for further use. The edges of the different metals may be chamfered away to receive strips of nickel 20b welded thereto, and a broader strip of metal 30 is welded thereto. Chrome nickel plates may be used for attaching to the steel slabs. The welding strips have gaps at the ends to allow air to escape from the plate joints on heating. The plates are first pickled and may be smoothed by planing &c. Specification 407,942 is referred to.
