Abstract
407,942. Making compound plates. WOLCOTT, D. S., Colonial Village, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Sept. 24, 1932, No. 26606. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1931. [Classes 83(ii) and 83 (iv).] Metal is covered with a plating of nickel &c., by welding the edges of a nickel &c., plate 2 to a metal slab 1 as at 3 and then successively rolling out the compound slab. The plates are pickled or smoothed by planing &c. The plate 2 may be secured to the slab by welding a strip of nickel 33 to the plate 2, welding a strip of suitable metal 33b to the slab 1 and then welding the two strips together by another metal strip 33<c>. A gap may be left in these welding strips to allow exit of air from between the plates while being soaked at 2250‹ F. The welding may be electrical. The slab is then heated in a furnace with a charcoal layer 6 to 2300‹ F. The plating material may be chrome nickel.
