Abstract
676,959. Hydraulic shock absorbers. SOC. D'INVENTIONS AERONAUTIQUES ET MECANIQUES S.I.A.M. Feb. 28, 1951 [March 1, 1950], No. 4903/51. Class 108(iii) In an hydraulic shock-absorber of the type in which a piston 3 is movable in an hydraulic cylinder 1, by the action of an oscillating lever 5, the lever 5 is articulated directly on to the piston 3, and a thick rubber ring 9 is in compression between, and bonded to, the piston 3 and wall of the cylinder 1. The arrangement permits the piston to have a slight lateral movement in addition to its normal axial movement. As shown, the piston is pivoted at 4 to the link 5, which itself is pivoted to the cylinder at 6. A head 8 is bolted at 7 to each end of the body 3. Each ring 9 is bonded to a respective liner 10 mounted within the bore of the respective cylinder head 2. The spaces A, B between the piston heads 8 and their respective cylinder heads 2 are connected by a pair of passages not shown each of which houses a spring- loaded piston valve, Fig. 3 (not shown) for damping flow in respective directions between the two spaces A, B. A liquid reservoir (not shown) may be provided.
