Abstract

676,953. Electrostatic generators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 27, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 4758/51. Class 35. An electrostatic generator having a constant output voltage comprises a rotary insulating drum 2 charged from an exciting supply through corona brushes 3, 4, and delivering charge at an increased potential to a third corona brush 6 at a part of the drum having a lower capacity to earth. The inside of the drum is charged by brush 3 which is opposite an earthed plate 1 situated close outside the drum so that a large capacity is produced at this point between the drum and earth. The outside brush 4 which is opposite an earthed cylinder 5 placed close inside the drum for the same purpose, serves to prevent the accumulation on the outside of the drum of positive charge induced by the negative working charge within the drum. Electronic means are described for regulating the output voltage of the generator by comparing it with a fixed reference voltage and controlling the excitation voltage accordingly.
