676,938. Valves; spray-producers &c. SAFETY FIRST PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Nov. 29, 1950 [April 28, 1950], No. 29300/50. Classes 69 (iii) and 135. A dry chemical fire extinguisher comprises a bottle 10 in an opening 11 of which is mounted a spring- loaded, hand-operated plunger valve 28, and means for increasing the effectiveness of the valve seating which also prevents accidental opening of the valve. The valve, e.g. of nylon, is levered open by the handle 60 and locked closed by a pivoted bail 74 pressed on the valve stem 32 when a hand-operated cam 90, pivoted on a post 82, is forced on to the bail. The sealing pressure of the valve is adjusted by the nut 66 or by screwing the post, after removing the cam pivot 86, cam and bail and using the cam and its handle 84 as a turning tool. A sealing wire passing through holes 92 is sheared when the handle 84 is lifted. The discharge nozzle 18 contains a conical member 48 threaded in an apertured partition 52 so that the powder forms a hollow conical stream.
