Abstract

676,624. Dynamometers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Nov. 26, 1949 [Dec. 15, 1948], No. 32493/48. Class 35. An absorption dynamometer of the eddy current type has a rotor 1 between two opposed magnetic poles 3 on a floating casing 5, annular flanges 8 on the rotor 1 extending into grooves in the poles 3, the clearance between the flanges and the grooves forming an air-gap in the flux path from stator to rotor. Cooling water is passed between the stator and the rotor. The pole span is nearly equal to the diameter of the rotor and each pole covers the axial length of the rotor. The casing 5 is of stainless steel or of non-magnetic material such as bronze. The poles 3 are part of an electromagnet.
