Abstract
676,375. Fluid-pressure horns. VICKERSARMSTRONGS, Ltd. Aug. 16, 1950. [Aug. 24, 1949] No. 22044/49. Class 13. Steam or other gas under pressure enters through an inlet 2 and escapes past one or more diaphragms 7, 8, 9, Figs. 1 and 3, into an amplifying horn 3, thereby vibrating the diaphragms. These are adjustably mounted on a central pin 4 attached to a mounting plate 5 having apertures 6 to allow the passage of the steam or other gas. The casing 1 may be of stepped form, Fig. 2 (not shown). Discs 16, 17, 18 whose peripheries form annular nozzles with the casing 1 also may be mounted on the pin 4, Fig. 3. In a modification, Fig. 4, the inlet 2 has a nozzle 25 to direct the incoming gas against the centre of a diaphragm 19 which is secured at its periphery between a locating ring 24 and a ring 20 attached to the casing 1 by struts 21. A conical protuberance at the centre of the diaphragm 19 reduces turbulence. Condensed steam may be run off through a drain 26: Any of the diaphragms may be laminated and may be pre-stressed.
