[Also in Group V] In a process for automatic production of ceramic moulded articles by a preliminary and a final pressing operation the preliminary moulded articles on leaving the preliminary press are placed on a conveyer winch acts as a dosing or regular feed device and compensates inequalities in the output of the preliminary press, are carried thereby to an automatic transfer device which transfers them at regular time intervals to the final press, from which, after pressing, they are automaticmatically transferred at regular time intervals to another conveyer which conveys them to a drying device or for further treatment. A preliminary press a moulds a strip of material, which is cut by the machine c into piles of four superposed tiles. A rollerway d feeds these via a feedregulating device e to an intermittently driven conveyer g from which each tile is transferred synchronously with the movement of the conveyer by rotating arms provided with suction heads k, onto a final press comprising a rotating table m. After the final pressing each tile is transferred by a reciprocating pivoted arm q having a suction head o to one of a plurality of carriers r, arranged in sets of four and running on rails t to a drying oven v. The feed-regulating device, Fig. 3, comprises a counterweighted plate e<SP>1</SP> pivoted at w and normally resting under a stop w<SP>11</SP>. On stop w<SP>11</SP> is pivoted a second plate e<SP>11</SP> and a sliding bolt y is mounted in a bracket on the underside of this plate and also in a fixed bracket and is normally held in position below the end of plate e<SP>1</SP> by a spring z. When the piles of tiles fill the conveyer g and collect on the plate e<SP>11</SP> the excess weight on this plate causes a cam x<SP>11</SP> to withdraw the bolt y so that further articles passing over the plate e<SP>1</SP> depress this plate and drop off onto a return conveyer, not shown.
