In the production of composite metallic strip material by sintering, powder from the hopper 2 is discharged on to travelling band 1 by rotating roller 3, hopper side 2b acting as a seal and adjustable hopper side 2c serving to regulate the powder depth. The hopper sides may be vertical. The side 2c may be pivoted to adjust said depth. Alternatively, the material may be fed from the hopper by a screw to a second hopper whence the material is delivered by said roller. A. plurality of such rollers may be provided in the same hopper. Fig. 4 The roller 3 may be pivoted on arms 6a so as to vary said powder depth, the arms also serving as a seal. Fig. 5. The roller 3 may be mounted on a partly-enclosing bearing 2i. Alternatively, the roller may be magnetic and be held in a similar magnetised bearing. Fig. 10. The hopper side 2c may be formed with curved edge 2p and flat edge 2q, the said side 2c being inclined at any angle.
