Abstract
676,106. Supplying current to rotating conductors. RICCOMAGNO, G. Aug. 8, 1949 [March 30, 1949], No. 20538/49. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 7, 1950.] Class 38 (i). A contact device for rotary apparatus comprises annular metal pots 10, 10' containing mercury, concentrically arranged on an insulating support 14 and provided with insulating surrounds 15, 15<SP>1</SP> having downwardly extending flanges forming annular spaces 16, 16<SP>1</SP> for cylindrical contact 12, 12<SP>1</SP> which dip into the mercury and are connected to conductors 3, 3<SP>1</SP> passing through a hollow shaft 1 with which the contacts rotate. Terminals 13, 13<SP>1</SP> are welded or brazed to the bases of the pots. The inner walls of the latter may have ribs to prevent rotation of the mercury, and all the parts in contact with the mercury are formed of a material which does not amalgamate therewith. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 shows a construction wherein the shaft 1 has concentric cylindrical contacts 4, 5 secured on its end, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), and dipping into insulating pots 9, 9<SP>1</SP> containing mercury. Where the shaft is horizontal, contacts 4, 5 terminate in discs whose peripheries dip into the pots which are then arranged side by side, Fig. 2 (Cancelled) (not shown). The discs may have sections insulated from each other which complete different circuits. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
