[Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group XX] The depth below the ground of a body of underground water or other liquid is indicated by unwinding from a drum 16 electrically insulated wire 58 carrying sinker 26 comprising a tubular conductor through which, when the sinker contacts with the water, a circuit is completed to actuate an indicator. The sinker may be carried by twin insulated wires connected to concentric conductors 30, 31 separated by insulating material 32. At the drum, the twin wires are connected to insulated slip-rings 40, 41 in a disc on the drum spindle. Brushes 48 contacting with the slip-rings are connected to a battery and a current indicator.
