Abstract

675,653. Shipping cartons. BOWATERS FIBRE DRUMS, Ltd. July 17, 1947 [April 9, 1941], No. 19182/47. Classes 18 and 66 A flat-sided shipping carton with rounded corners, is formed by bending a blank e.g. of fibreboard and joining its ends, and has flange, T' &c. along its upper and/or lower edges to which a top and/or bottom closure is/are attached as by staples 27, and has also a reinforcing bead 22 e.g. of metal, secured to the said edge or edges. The bead may be C-sectioned with opposite edges biting respectively into the sides and flanges. Such a bead may be applied along one or both edges of the blank, each bead being of such a length that its ends abut or overlap when the blank is formed into the carton. When the ends of the bead abut they may be joined by a coupling 28. The top may be in the form of a hingedly attached lid 14 and may have a finger hole 37 therein to facilitate opening. Holes 21 reinforced by beads 39 may be made in the sides to provide hand holds. In a modification, the lower edges of the sides have no flanges but there are flanges on the bottom closure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the subjectmatter of Specification 675,697. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
