While I use the terms ,side and end walls, it will be understood that they are used for convenience in designating relative relation of the parts rather than in relation to shape. d

The embodiment of my invention illustrated is formed of an integral blank comprising sidewalls 2 and 3 and end walls 4 and connected by hinging or folding scores 6. The sealing flap 7 is connected to the side wall 3 by a folding or hinging score 6.

In the embodiment illustrated, the sealing flap 7 is dimensioned to correspond to the end walls with the exception that it has a notch 8 .at its upper end which serves as a finger opening as will appearv as the description proceeds. This sealing flap is arranged on the inner side of the end wall 4 and it serves as a reinforcing member therefor.

The side walls are provided with bottom closure members 9, the end wall '5 with the bottom closure member 10 and. end Wall 4 with the bottom member 11. These bottom closure members are disposed in overlapping relation and adhesively secured together as is common practice in cartons of this type and therefore the relation ice of these parts in the erected bottom is not illustrated. The shape of the end wall bottom member 11 has nothing todo with its functioning but is the result of other structural features which will be pointed out as thedescription proceeds.

The outer side top closure member 13 is provided with atongue or finger piece 18 which projects beyond the edge 17, its tip or edge 19 is desirably rounded as illustrated, and extends to the end wall 4, see Fig. l. The top closure member 16 is substantially longer than the end top closure member 15 as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 5.

The end wall 4 is provided with a transverse hinging score 23 which renders the upper portion of the end wall 4. swingable and theend top closure 16 is hingedly connected at 25"to theupperedge of this swingable section 24. The end top .closure member 16 is of such length that-when in closed position its end projects beyond the edge produced by the removal of the top closure portion '22, as is indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. With the section 22 removed the top closure member 16 constitutes a closure for the resulting opening and the carton may be opened and reclosed by manipulation. of the swinging section 24. A tab 26 projecting from the edge of the closure member 16 overlies the adjacent sidewall and serves as a guide in inserting the closure member 7 in below the overlapping side closure membe rs, as is illustrated in Fig. 2.

' The swingable section 24 of the end wall 4 has a fracturable connection 27 to the side wall 2. This prevents the swingable section 24 from swinging outwardly until after this connection is broken.

It will be noted that the blank shown in Fig. 5 is of substantially rectangular angular outline. However the end closure flap 16 projects beyond the edges of the other top closure flaps. In Fig. 6 I have illustrated how these blanks may be stamped from sheet stock and the extended portion of the closure member 16 resulting in the shortening of the bottom closure member 11, as indicated at As stated, the carton is designed to facilitate opening without the use of implements. To open it is only necessary to grasp the finger piece and pull upwardly thereon which results in rupturing the fracturable connection of the top closure portion 22 to the adjacent parts. The swingable portion of the end wall may then be manipulated to withdraw the closure member 16 and swing it to open position as 'illustrated'in Fig. 3. The. notch 3 provides a finger opening for facilitating the removal of a packaged material such as the packages.

I have not illustrated and described various modifications and adaptations which might be desirable or advantageous for particular products as it is believed this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my invention as may be desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

- 1 A dispensing carton formed of an integral blank and comprising side walls and end walls provided with coacting bottom closuremembers, the side walls having overlapping side top closure members, one end wall having a top flap disposed on the inner side of said side top closure members, the inner of said side top closure members terminating in spaced relation to the other end wall, the outer of said side top closure members having a finger piece projecting beyond the end edge of the inner of the side top closure members, said side top closure members having aligned transverse weakened severing zones spaced from said end edge of said inner side top closure member and severing connections to their respective side walls terminating at such transverse weakened zones facilitating the removal of a portion of the top closure to provide a discharge opening for the carton by grasping said finger piece the adjacent end wall having a transverse score adjacent its upper end providing a swingable section, said swingable section having a top closure flap on its swinging edge initially disposed on the inner side of said side top closure members and being of such length as to project beyond the said transverse severing zone thereof, whereby when said severable portion of said side top closure is removed said top closure flap may be adjusted by manipulation of said swingable end wall section. 2. A dispensing carton comprising side walls and end walls, the side walls having overlapping side top closure members, the inner of said side top closure memi bers terminating in spaced relation to end wall, the outer of said side top closure members having a finger piece projecting beyond said end edge of the inner of the side closuremember, said side top closure members having aligned transverse weakened zones facilitating the rev moval of a portion of the top closure to provide a discharge opening for the carton by grasping said finger piece, the adjacent end wall having a transverse score adjacent its upper end providing a swingable sectiomsaid whereby when said severable portion of said side top closure is removed the said top closure flap may be adjusted by manipulation of said swingable end wall section.

A dispensing carton comprising side walls and end walls, the side walls having overlapping side top closure members, the inner of said side top closure members terminating in spaced relation to one end wall, the outer of said side top closure members projecting beyond said end edge of the inner of said side top closure members, said side; top closure members having transverse severing zones spaced from said end edge of said inner side top closure members and fracturable connections to their respective sidewalls terminating at such transverse weakened zones facilitatingthe removal of a portion of the top closure to provide a discharge opening for the carton, the adjacent end wall having a transverse score adjacent its upper end providing a swingable section, said swingable end wall section having .a top closure flap on its swinging edge initially disposed on the inner side of said top side closure members and being of such length as to project beyond said transverse severing zone thereof.

A dispensing carton comprising side walls and end walls, the side walls having overlapping side top closure members, the inner of said side top closure members terminating in spaced relation to one end wall, the outer of said side top closure members projecting beyond said end edge of the inner of said side top closure mem bers, its end constituting a finger piece, said side top closure members having transverse fracturable zones spaced from said end edge of said inner side top closure "member and fracturable connections to their respective 'side walls .facilitating the removal of a portion oflthe top closure to provide a discharge opening for the carton by grasping the end of the outer of said closure members, the adjacent end wallhaving a swingable upper section, 'at least one edge of said swingable section initially having fracturable connections to one side wall, said swing V able end wall section having a top closure flap on its swingable section having a top closure flap on its swinging edge initially disposed on the inner side of said side top closure members and being of such length as to project beyond the said transverse severing zone thereof, whereby when said severable portion of said side top closure is removed saidtop closure flap may be adjusted by manipulation of said swingable end wall section.

A dispensing carton comprising side walls and 7 end walls, the side walls having overlapping side top closure members, one end wall having a top'flap disposed on and fixedly secured to the inner side of said side top closure members, the inner of said top closure members terminating in spaced relation to the other end Wall, the

outer of said side top closure members projecting beyond said end edge of the inner of said side top closure members, said side top closure members having transverse severing zones spaced from said end edge of said inner side top closure members and fracturable connections to their respective side walls terminating at such transverse weakened zones facilitating the removal of a portion of the top closure to provide a discharge openingfor the carton, the adjacent end' wall havinga transverse score adjacent its upper end providing a swingable section, at least one edge of said swingable section initially having a fracturable connection to one side wall, said swingable end wall section having a top closure flap on its swingswinging edge initially disposed on the inner side of said top side closure members and being of such length as to project beyond said transverse severing zone thereof.

6. A dispensing carton comprising side walls and end walls, the sidewalls having overlapping side top closure members, the inner of said side too closure members terminating in'spaced relation to one end wall, the outer of said side top closure members projecting beyond said end edge of the inner of said side top closure members, its end constituting a finger piece, said side top closure members having transverse fracturable zones spaced from said end edge of said inner side top closure member'and fracturable connections to their respective side walls facilitating the removal of a portion of the top closure to provide a discharge opening for the carton by grasping the end of the outer of said closure members, the adjacent end wall having a swingable upper section, said swingable end wall section having a top closure flap on its swinging edge initially disposed on the inner side of said top side closure members and being of such length as to project beyond said transverse severing zone thereof.
