Abstract
675,451. Pneumatic conveyers. JAKOBSEN, S. O. Sept. 26, 1950. [Jan. 28, 1950] No. 23617/50. Class 78 (i). In a pneumatic conveyer of the kind in which loose material is elevated through an adjustable pipe by a suction pump, two chambers are provided which are alternately placed in communication with the suction pump and the suction pipe by valve means common to the chambers so that while one chamber is subjected to suction and the material is drawn into it, the other chamber is freed from suction to permit the discharge of the material therefrom. The chambers, pump and driving motor are disposed in compartments a, b, c, Fig. 1, respectively, of a container provided with wheels 6. A horizontal telescopic pipe 1<SP>1</SP> opens into compartment a and is connected by a flexible joint 2 to a vertical telescopic pipe 1<SP>2</SP>. The pipe 1<SP>1</SP>, is suspended by hangers 8 from a beam 7 which is supported by the container and is adjusted longitudinally by rack-andpinion mechanism. The length of the pipe 1<SP>2</SP> is adjusted by a line 12 connected to a winding drum 14. A housing 16, Fig. 3, placed in compartment a is divided into chambers 17, 18 by a partition 19. A cylinder 20 mounted in an opening in the partition has its ends in close contact with the walls of the housing and is provided with ports 29, 30 near one end and with larger ports 34, 35, Figs. 4, 5 for the greater part of its length. The cylinder 20 contains a rotatable hollow member 21 having (1) diametrically opposite ports 31, 32 between which, on one side only of the member are ports 33, and (2) a single large port 36. Each end of the member 21 is open, but a disc 22 inserted in it prevents through passage of the material. The disc carries a shaft 23 which can be turned either by hand or by the swinging movement of the plates 40 hereinafter described. The chamber 28 between the disc and the end wall of the housing communicates by ports 27 with a suction chamber 26 connected to the pump P. Perforated plates 40, Fig. 3, are hinged to the cylinder 20 and rest normally on lugs 41. Valves 42, 43 in the top of the chamber 17 and valves 44, 45 on the chamber 18 normally are maintained closed by springs. The valve 42 is connected to the valve 44 by a pipe 50 and the valves-43, 45 are connected by a, pipe 51. Material sucked up through the pipes 1<SP>2</SP>, 1<SP>1</SP> passes into the member 21 and out through the port 36 and whichever port 34, 35 is in register with it, into one of the chambers 17, 18. As the material accumulates in the chamber, it will press against a plate 40 and swing it upwards until it raises one of the valve stems 46, 47 and opens the valve 42 or 45. The opening of one of these valves effects also the opening of either the valve 44 or 43, and the empty chamber is connected to suction. When the member 21 is rotated the empty chamber is filled. The full chamber is discharged by opening the door 39.
