Abstract

675,371. Photographic and photogrammetric apparatus. BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO. Jan. 2, 1950 [Jan. 7, 1949], No. 28/50. Classes 97 (ii), 98 (i) and 98 (ii). In the production of images from the final image of an original photograph produced by an optical system, to correct the said image for radial distortion, the original is copied by projection on to a light-sensitive plate having a curved shape predetermined according to the amount of correction and to the characteristics of the copying and projecting lenses to produce a final image free of radial distortion. The principle of the invention is illustrated in Fig. 6. The light-sensitive surface 25<SP>11</SP> is located within the depth of focus 30a, 30b of the lens 15 by which the original is copied and of the lines 23 by which the final corrected image is projected after processing. A ray 27 from a point on the original photograph meets the means image plane 26 at point 28 and strikes the surface 25<SP>11</SP> at a point B at distance L from the plane 26. A ray from point B to the lens 23 passes the surface 26 at point 31 and the distance L is so chosen in relation to the distances P and K of the two lenses from the surface 25<SP>11</SP> that the distance from points 28 to 31 corresponds to the distortion to be corrected at the particular radius r. The image projected by the lens 23 is thereby corrected for radial distortion and may be used for stereogrammetric measurement. The shape of surface 25<SP>11</SP> may be designed so that a corrected image is seen when viewed by light passing through the surface perpendicular to the plane 26 and such light may be used to produce a corrected photograph.
