Abstract

673,421. Aircraft. TUCKER & SONS. March 22, 1950, No. 7207/50. Class 4. An aircraft capable of functioning as an aeroplane during normal flight, and as a helicopter when taking-off and landing, comprises a vertical post 7 rotatably mounted on the fuselage and a pair of wing sections 5, 6 mounted on spindles 9 projecting from the post whereby the angle of incidence of each wing section can be varied or reversed, means, such as a roller 18 engaging a recess 19 in a cam 20 carried by the post 7, for releasably locking the post against rotation, and an engine and propeller unit 22, 24 mounted on each wing section, one or each of the propellers being of the reversible-pitch type. For aeroplane operation the roller 18 is moved into engagement with the cam recess 19 by a hydraulic ram, to prevent rotation of the post 7, and the wings adjusted to the same angle of incidence by hydraulic power units. To enable the machine to operate as a helicopter the post 7 is released, the wings are set at opposite angles of incidence by the power units, and the pitch of one of the propellers 24 reversed.
