Abstract

673,109. Belt gearing. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 21, 1949 [Oct. 2, 1948]. No. 24266/49. Class 80 (i). [Also in Group XXVIII] A device for removing a belt 3 from the end 2 of a pulley extending through a converter opening 7 in a vacuum cleaner casing 1 comprises a tool 8 arranged to co-operate with the belt 3 when a converter tube 9 is received within the opening 7 and having an annular hand grip 12 and a cylindrical belt engaging surface, both coaxial with the pulley 2 when the tube 9 is secured; the tool 8 being longitudinally movable and freely rotatable about the common axis whereby the belt 3 can be caused to slide off the pulley on to the cylindrical surface by first urging the tool 8 against the belt 3 and then rotating it in a direction opposed to the normal direction of rotation of the pulley. An open ended tubular portion 17 of the tool 8 is slid over the end 2 of the pulley before the tool is rotated. A spring 23 biasses the tool forward, and a shoulder 24 limits rearward movement.
