Abstract

672,508. Control of A.C. motors. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. July 17, 1950. [Aug. 6, 1949] No. 17860/50..Class 38 (iii). [Also in Group XXXV] A method of. transmitting power by means of three-phase current on a vehicle which is provided with at least one motor indirectly driving the axle mechanically, is characterised in that the driving motor is a changeable pole short circuited armature motor; the ratio of the minimum to the maximum number of poles not exceeding 1 : 3, and a generator having poles changeable in the ratio 1 : 3 is employed for feeding the motor. Single winding motors changeable to 4, 6 or 8 alternatively or to 8 or 12 poles may be used, or double winding motors changeable to 4, 8, 6 or 12, or, alternatively, 6, 12, 8, or 16 poles. For lighter duties, motors having poles changeable only in the ratio 1:2 may be used. According to the speed of the driving machine the generator may have poles changeable from 2 to 6, or 4 to 12, 6 to 18 or 8 to 24. It is stated that with pole changing of the generator in the ratio 1 : 3 it is possible to provide a good winding factor. Specification 19903/11, [Class 38 (iv)], and U.S.A. Specification 1,598,268 are referred to.
