Abstract

979,985. Toy vehicles. METTOY CO. Ltd. Dec. 23, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 36386/62. Heading A6S. [Also in Division G5] A locomotive toy is electrically propelled along a surface by means of a plurality of electrical windings in said surface fed with A.C. which interacts with a magnet on the vehicle in much the same way as the stator windings of an electric clock react with the magnetic rotor. Preferably the magnet 3 has at least three pole faces 4 which are spaced so they span at least two of the track windings 7 which preferably should be two or three-phase electric current to simplify starting. Alternatively, the frequency may be gradually increased from zero to maximum, thus making the apparatus suitable for a race game. Reversing can be achieved by changing the phase notation of the windings. Oscillatory power may be provided by power transistors from a battery or a low-voltage output transformer.
