Abstract

672,424. Variable-pitch propellers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 20, 1950 [April 23, 1949], No. 9684/50. Class 114. A hydraulic control device has an accumulator 60 with its control valve 70 forming a shunt across the minimum pressure valve 10 between the pump 1 and the servomotor control valve 30. The accumulator is discharged by movement of collar 90, the cam 99 moving the lever 101, opening the valve 80 and thus allowing pressure fluid from the accumulator to unseat valve 71b. The movement of collar 90 simultaneously opens valve 30 to feather or unfeather as required. Fluid from the pump 1 cannot pass along pipe 12 until a minimum pressure is obtained to lower valve 10. When not required to move the blade operating piston 41 fluid is by-passed to the reservoir by the valve 51, the lifting pressure of which is influenced by engine speed, and by the pressure in the pipe 44. An excess pressure valve 53 is also provided. In a modification the valves 70, 80 are replaced by cylindrical valves.
