Abstract

A b -halobenzhydryl ether is obtained by heating a benzhydryl halide with ethylene oxide in the presence of a basic catalyst, e.g. benzhydryl bromide is heated with ethylene oxide at a temperature between 100 DEG and 180 DEG C. in the presence of a carbonate of an alkaline metal to produce b -bromoethylbenzhydryl ether.
