Abstract

671,902. Cathode-ray tubes. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. Sept. 1, 1950 [Sept. 2, 1949], No. 21628/50. Class 39 (i). A television pick-up tube of the kind in which an electron image of the picture to be transmitted is projected on a storage target has the target flooded with slow electrons, the intensity and velocity of the flooding electrons being such that the mean potential and the peak potential of the target are sufficiently low to allow the derivation of a high video signal current. Preferably the flooding beam is as homogeneous as possible and has a velocity corresponding to a potential of 3 to 10 volts. In Fig. 2 electrons from the photo-cathode 1 charge the mosaic 2 which is scanned by a high velocity beam 3 and flooded by a conical beam of slow electrons from the gun 4. To overcome distortion caused by the edges of the mosaic being charged by the flooding beam auxiliary linear electrodes 12, 13 may be provided near the edges of the mosaic; electrode 13 is preferably at the potential of the cathode of the gun 4 and electrode 12 positive to it. An illuminated photo-cathode may be used instead of the gun 4 as a source of flooding electrons.
