Abstract

770,459. Television pick-up tubes. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. June 15, 1954, No. 17579/54. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] A system for prolonged visual presentation of an X-ray image of short duration comprises a camera tube 10 with a negative feedback circuit 16, including a video amplifier 41, between the secondary electron collector and signal electrode 27 and a transparent electrode 32 backing the photo-conductive target 33. The signal is also fed, through a video amplifier 45, to the display tube 14. The potential of an elemental scanned area is shifted to a stable potential where the secondary emission ratio is unity so as not to erase the charge pattern. The charge pattern is produced by conduction through the photo-conductive layer, of charges liberated by light from a fluorescent layer 30. Where the charges are electrons e.g. with a photo-conductive target of antimony trisulphide, the charge image is discharged by the scanning beam in a positive direction and the effect of redistribution of secondary electrons is small. Where the charges are " holes e.g. with a photo -conductive target composed of red vitreous selenium, a flood gun is provided to direct high energy electrons uniformly over the target. The surface of the target is charged negatively at a faster rate than the holes change it in a positive direction, and the charge image is as before, discharged in a positive direction by the scanning beam. The charge image may be erased by disconnecting the feedback circuit. A synchronizing pulse opens switch 105, through relay 107, just prior to operation of the X-ray source. Specification 754,752 is referred to.
