Class 106(v) [Also in Groups XI and XII] An intermittent injection device for fuel oil or other liquid comprises a piston 21 reciprocable in a cylindrical bore in a body 16 and having a liquid receiving chamber, e.g. an annular chamber 23, between its ends in permanent communication with an inlet 20 for intermittently receiving liquid under pressure and in communication through a non-return valve 42 with the space within the cylindrical bore at the end of the piston 21 remote from a liquid discharge outlet 29, passages 26, 27 extending from opposite ends of and through the piston to peripheral points within the recess 23, a resilient sleeve 24 around the piston for preventing communication between the passages 26, 27, a spring 40 acting on the end of the piston facing the outlet 29 and means such as a screw 22 for adusting the length of the piston stroke. Intermittent pulses of liquid are supplied through the inlet 20 and a filter 34 to pass through the non-return valve 42 to the space above the piston 21 to depress the latter and discharge the liquid in the space below it through the nozzle 29. As each pressure impulse at the inlet 20 ceases the piston 26 is raised by the spring 40, the liquid above the plunger being forced through the passage 26 to the inner surface of the resilient sleeve 24, to expand the latter and allow the liquid to pass through the passage 27 to the space below the piston.
